AWS Customer challenge
With ambitions to disrupt personal lines insurance, new entrant The Green Insurer was looking for a tech partner to power the launch of the market's first truly green proposition, aligning with both consumers' and insurers' growing demands for products linked to sustainability.
It planned to use telematics to track and reward greener driving, handing policyholders the opportunity to directly influence renewal price, with vehicle specification, mileage, and driving performance used to calculate and offset the carbon footprint of every journey.
The result for insurers: access to a book of self-selected 'safer' drivers, loyal to a brand sharing their values, and translating into high retention rates, with low claim frequency and loss ratios.
How AWS was leveraged as part of the solution
CDL's Strata retail platform was selected due to its market-leading capabilities to bring to market the sale and administration of policies, including telematics-based, via a range of channels: web, price comparison sites, contact center, mobile and voice devices.
Used by some of the UK's largest personal lines providers, the system generates millions of transactions each day, making AWS the ideal cloud-hosting platform to deliver the resilience and scalability required to handle these volumes.
For telematics, policies are automated throughout the policy lifecycle, with a rules-based engine enabling actions to be applied to the insurance policy based on driver performance.
AWS solutions leveraged for The Green Insurer include:
- Global deployment options: to ensure resilience and regulatory compliance. These include Multiple Availability Zones and the Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) to enable applications to be run in a managed cluster of Amazon instances, as well as Amazon S3 object storage to give access to the same highly scalable, reliable and fast data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.
- Amazon RDS Support: Amazon RDS engines are used to bring data together into a consistent model that enables powerful analytics capability and integration with visualisation dashboards to deliver real time business intelligence. CDL also utilises RDS features such as database snapshots, enhanced monitoring, performance insights and tight integration with IAM.
Outcomes
Now on price comparison sites and available direct to customers, CDL APIs integrate data and optimise online journeys for new business and self-service into The Green Insurer's website and customer app, thereby offering a fully automated digital experience.
The cloud-based scalable platform simplifies the sale and management of insurance products with data-driven digital journeys that give insurance retailers the ability to engage proactively with their customers.
