AWS Customer challenge
iGO4 is data and technology focused insurance broker and a UK market leader in telematics. As a house of brands, iGO4 provides motor, home, and telematics propositions and white label insurance solutions.
It uses the CDL Strata retail platform for policy sales and administration, supporting multiple channels including web, contact centre and price comparison sites, with all data stored on a single database.
iGO4 wanted the ability to consume live business data to its business data-lake platform, in near real-time, and deliver scheduled feeds to business partners. It aimed to move away from nightly feeds and large volume reporting to use of data visualisation tools to provide data insight. Specific targets were to support data analytics in an automated way, remove manual intervention and deliver data within minutes rather than up to 24 hours after the event - helping drive competitive advantage in an industry where accuracy and speed of insight is critical.
How AWS was leveraged as part of the solution
Kingfisher is a cloud-based business intelligence solution running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to ensure scalability and resilience while handling volumes in excess of 100Tb of data. It was built to provide users of CDL's Strata insurance retail platform with near real-time information to support decision-making and give them a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
With Differentiated Software Partner status in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN), CDL has a strong track record in deploying Kingfisher on AWS.
AWS global deployment options are leveraged to ensure resilience and data security. These include Multiple Availability Zones and the Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) to enable applications to be run in a managed cluster of Amazon instances, as well as Amazon S3 object storage to give access to the same highly scalable, reliable and fast data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.
The Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service) is used to bring data together into a simple, consistent model, which is key to delivering real time analysis, accurate modelling of high volume business transactions and the ability to integrate with visualisation dashboards. CDL also utilises RDS features such as database snapshots, enhanced monitoring, performance insights and tight integration with IAM.
This means that Kingfisher provides access to in excess of one hundred views of reportable data tables, providing detailed analysis of the reportable Strata core data and Web quote data. Simplifying the consumption of reportable data, this provides customers with the flexibility to consume data in a multitude of ways, using Kingfisher's reporting and visualisation module, customer data extract module, SFTP module and ETL Module. As soon as data is replicated into Kingfisher, it can be visualised and consumed at speed, showing changes in a matter of minutes and enabling users to make informed decisions and track KPIs.
CDL achieved the Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) Ready designation when it demonstrated that Kingfisher followed AWS architecture, security, and reliability best practices to integrate with Amazon RDS, and it was one of the launch partners for this designation.
Outcomes
Utilising Kingfisher with customer-specified enterprise data consumption tools, iGO4 is now able to produce automated and repeatable near real-time analytics to drive business insight and decision making, whilst supporting business partners in the sharing of data.
Sales data is available in near-real time, with multiple updates each hour enabling rates to be adjusted based on an accurate picture of policy sales and conversion rates.
