AWS Customer challenge
Integra Insurance Solutions is a growing UK-based MGA owned by the Hannover Re Group, specialising in home insurance and offering home insurance policies exclusively through selected insurance intermediaries and brokers.
With a focus on high quality customer experience, Integra continually refines its products and pricing for the benefit of customers and partners. The ability to distribute the right products to market is therefore key to achieving its service excellence goal, and ultimately driving further growth both for Integra and its partners.
Integra recognised that it needed a product rating and distribution solution that would give it full control of product release and accelerate its speed to market. It also sought to harness real time data on product performance to provide actionable insight and the agility to be able to respond to market changes swiftly and give its partners faster access to competitive products.
How AWS was leveraged as part of the solution
Integra selected CDL Proteus as a proven insurer hosted pricing (IHP) hub that gives insurers and MGAs the ability to achieve strategic, mass market product distribution and adjust product and pricing strategies in real time.
Crucially, as an AWS-hosted solution, Proteus is easily scalable, enabling Integra to expand capacity on demand as it adds products or partners. Integra's traffic has grown by over 400% within the last 12 months without any degradation of service.
CDL holds Differentiated Software Partner status in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN) and boasts a track record in deploying the Proteus IHP hub on AWS for some of the UK's largest insurers.
Processing over 164 million transactions per day, Proteus uses AWS services to ensure resilience and scalability when storing and processing data. These include Multiple Availability Zones and the Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) to enable applications to be run in a managed cluster of Amazon instances, as well as Amazon S3 object storage to give access to the same highly scalable, reliable and fast data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.
Self-healing services operate on optimal compute resources via capacity providers, while AWS Enterprise Support, 24/7/365 monitoring and technical collaboration allows the highest levels of availability.
AWS Key Management Service (KMS) is used to give Integra assurance that the latest security standards are protecting IP and customer data, while supporting international compliance requirements.
Control and speed to market
CDL Proteus gives Integra full control of product design and delivery, from inception to deployment, and the ability to deliver changes to products and pricing in real-time, at pace. This enables it to support brokers by instantly responding to fluctuations in market conditions and giving them faster access to the latest products.
Importantly, the efficiency and high levels of automation within the Proteus hub ensure that its use gives Integra the freedom to concentrate on innovation and sophistication rather than change management, resulting in improved profitability and business growth.
Whole market connectivity
The Proteus platform enables whole of market connectivity through existing integrations with the UK's major software houses. This eliminates the time and cost previously associated with product release via a number of different technology platforms. For example, work which would previously have required six weeks' notice has been completed in less than a week.
Intelligent rating capability
As well as enabling sophisticated testing of rates prior to release, Proteus gives the ability to create personalised dashboards. With Kibana software, Integra has been able to create dashboards to visualise product performance, enabling access in-depth, actionable insight to pinpoint and resolve issues in real time. This wider view of extensive datasets is also proving valuable in identifying new market segments and opening up underwriting opportunities.
Sophisticated price optimisation
Integra also deployed Proteus' integration with Radar Live, Willis Towers Watson's price delivery and decision engine platform to further enhance its price optimisation capabilities. This gives access to extensive modelling, customer profiling and real-time intelligence based on high volumes of data, enabling Integra to price more accurately and enhance conversion rates.

Third party applications or solutions used
The Proteus deployment for Integra connects to CDL's Hummingbird data analytics solution, also hosted on AWS, to integrate with Integra's enrichment partners. This enables more intelligent rating decisions based on extensive industry data and the ability to offer consumers more targeted products using real time pricing.
CDL also uses leading-edge monitoring tools, such as Dynatrace, to monitor the CDL layer of services built on top of AWS. Dynatrace uses machine learning, auto-discovery and dependency mapping to automatically analyse the dynamically scaling estate it is monitoring.
