AWS Customer challenge
A longstanding CDL customer, Pukka Services, part of the Freedom Group, sought an Insurer Hosted Pricing (IHP) solution to enable it to take control of product pricing and distribution and accelerate their delivery to its broker community.
Pukka recognised the scalability and resilience offered by AWS cloud-hosting was key to increasing capacity and supporting its ambition to grow volumes through expansion into new product lines, as well as sustained growth of existing lines.
How AWS was leveraged as part of the solution
CDL holds Independent Software Vendor (ISV) status within the AWS Partner Network (APN). Its globally recognised cloud capabilities and track record in deploying to the cloud have seen it achieve a number of designations, including AWS PrivateLink Service Ready and Amazon RDS Ready for business applications, as well as AWS Financial Services ISV Competency for Proteus.
Its innovative Proteus Insurer Hosted Pricing (IHP) solution has a track record delivering in-house product control and vital speed to market and processes over 164 million transactions per day, using AWS services to ensure resilience and scalability when storing and processing data. These include Multiple Availability Zones and the Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) to enable applications to be run in a managed cluster of Amazon instances, as well as Amazon S3 object storage to give access to the same highly scalable, reliable and fast data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.
Self-healing services operate on optimal compute resources via capacity providers, while AWS Enterprise Support, 24/7/365 monitoring and technical collaboration allows the highest levels of availability.
With Kibana software, Pukka has been able to create dashboards to visualise product performance, enabling access to in-depth, actionable insight to pinpoint and resolve issues in real time. This wider view of extensive datasets is also proving valuable in identifying new market segments and opening up underwriting opportunities.
AWS Key Management Service (KMS) is used to give Pukka Services the latest security standards are protecting IP and customer data, while supporting international compliance requirements.
Outcomes
As a proven Insurer Hosted Pricing (IHP) hub, CDL Proteus gives Pukka Services the ability to make changes to products and pricing in real time, enabling them to support brokers by instantly responding to fluctuations in market conditions and giving broker partners faster access to competitive rates.
Crucially, the platform enables whole of market connectivity through integrations with the UK's major software houses. This eliminates the time and cost previously associated with product release via a number of different technology platforms.
Product updates which would previously have required up to six weeks' notice is completed instantly, rather than in line with the standard six-week software house cycle, ensuring brokers, and customers are now able to access accurate rates instantly.
As an AWS-hosted solution, Proteus is easily scalable, enabling Pukka to expand capacity on demand as it adds products or partners.
Customer statement
"We are excited to see the benefits of razor sharp pricing in terms of brokers' ability to compete effectively and profitably. With near real-time reporting in place, we are able to tailor products to target market segments to drive conversion."
